The LA Times has a tape of Barack Obama speaking at a dinner in honor of Rashid Khalidi, an Islamic scholar who has been accused of having ties to the PLO in the 1980s, when it was actively engaged in terrorist activity (at least as defined by Congress in 2004). It has been alleged that anti-Israeli remarks were made at the dinner. ()

The LA Times has admitted that they have a tape of part of the evening's proceedings including Barack Obama's speech. They are not releasing tape citing a "promise" made to the source of the tape not to do so.

I don't know what was said at the dinner. I don't know if Mr. Khalidi ever worked for Arafat or the PLO. It seems to me this is something that should be investigated. A few years back Trent Lott was forced to resign as Senate Majority Leader for saying positive things about fellow Senator Strom Thurmond at a dinner. Lott's statements were stupid, and it was probably right that he was forced to resign. Barack Obama's praise for a man who may have been connected to the PLO also seems fair game. His attendance at a dinner where anti-Israeli statements were (allegedly) made is, I think, a fair topic of discussion for the media.

It seems to me incredible that the LA Times is refusing to release the tape or to provide transcripts (they have thus far only provided "details" of it). Their excuse seems lame.

I can direct you to a photo of Jimmy Carter with Yasser Arafat and Menachem Began, both veteran terrorists.

As long as we're on this Spanish Inquisition I'm really concerned about McCain. The man was a POW of communists. How can we be sure he isn't some Manchurian Candidate? I can see it now, dancing with Palin at the innaugeral dinner, the designated national poet laureat steps up and recites 'I've miles to go before I sleep' and John walks off to open the briefcase handcuffed to a secret service officer.

Is it therefore fortunate that Robert Frost is dead?

The motive of the Times is all very easy to see if you view the REAL version of the second paragraph of the LA Times's endorsement of Barack Obama with ALL the text included. (Many words were redacted prior to publication when one of the editors accidentally sobered up.) Here it is with the missing pieces put back in in BOLD. Fnord.:

"The U.S. senator from Illinois distinguishes himself as an inspiring secret cult leader who cuts through typical internecine campaign bickering and appeals to imbecile, brainwashed Americans long weary of divisive and destructive politics and longing for a socialist paradise. He electrifies young voters with secret mind-control rays, not because he is young but because he is actually 666 years old and he embodies the desire to move all Republicans to Mars and to make terrorists the author of the next chapter of the American story. He brings with him deep secret, cultish and edumacated knowledge of foreign relations with people real Americans would shoot on site and of this nation's particular struggles with identity disorders and opportunity for graft and corruption. His Wiccan-based flair for controlling voters by his calm expression, both in print and on the stump, too easily leads observers to forget that Obama is a man not just of secret Islamofascist style but of a substance previously unknown to science until the flyby of Saturn. He's a thoughtful student of the Secret Constitution and an experienced lawmaker in his home state of Palestine and, for the last three years, in the Senate of the Secret Society of International Terrorists."

--From the LA Times secret papers, found among the mixed-up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, known communist, now in federal prison (location unknown).

SO there is no fundamental difference between meeting with unsavory characters (who also happen to be heads of states or Non-governmental organizations) as part of the job of the presidency and voluntarily going to dinner and speaking favorably on behalf of someone with potential ties to a terrorist organization? At least Carter met with his terrorists in broad daylight and allowed in the press.

Khalidi
Ayers
Rev Wright
Rezko
Father Fleiger

One really has to "look the other way" (or be a pretty staunch lefty) to support Obama.

The LA Times officially supports Obama.

I stopped subscribing to the l.A. Times after my mother's canary dropped dead from asphyxiation after pooping on the ink.

I get the real 'poop' from a shoeshine stand featured in a short lived t.v. series I cannot recall at the moment, my coffee machine left unplugged, probably by my Democrat voting nephew.
