I just received the new J. Press catalog and was really surprised at their selection. Every single blazer and suit was darted and had big/square shoulder, and they've eliminated their traditional cotton OCBD line altogether in favor of non-iron version. Awful.

Very disappointed to hear that. I will never buy shirts/pants made of non-iron fabrics. Natural fibers all the way for me.

Non-iron shirts, even ones that are 100% cotton, don't breathe as well as regular, untreated shirts. They also use fusing which many members on this "Trad" forum dislike, preferring soft or unlined collars, cuffs, and plackets.

And they're changing their name to J. Permanent Press

But you've got to give them credit for finally ditching the boring, ubiquitous repp stripe ties. Like we need one more retailer for those things. And it's about time they offered a decent 'piano key' tie.

The new catalog sounds like a disappointment. But, Press's website still has the "normal" (i.e., non non-iron) OCBDs (including pocket flaps), as well as their other Trad offerings. I don't see the big cause for alarm here.

EDIT: Do I hear an April Fool's coming on?

Ron A: I think me and PorterSq's catalogues arrived a bit early. They'll probably start changing things soon enough for summer.

You all crack jokes, but the footwear I saw was pretty disappointing. Plain straight tips, a Chelsea boot and no sign of any long wings. No silk shirts, thank God, but those point collar shirts have pretty much taken over. I think they're trying to appeal to the mass market to survive in this economy. It's just a shame because I was looking forward to making some purchases later this year.

Finally looked at the calendar...

After pulling my copy of the J.Press Spring-Summer 2009 Catalogue (look--no darts!) the signifcance of today's date sank in. HAPPY ALL FOOL'S DAY (April Fool's Day), all!:icon_smile_big:

I was in on the joke but decided to act in ignorance to see what would happen. :icon_smile_big:

Thanks, all, for being good sports. And I can confirm: Jovan sniffed it out about 10 seconds after I posted, yet still kept up the fun and played along.

One of the only feelings better than good news is finding out that bad news isn't true. I hope for those who momentarily got sucked in, they feel that way too.
