Good Evening,

I am trying to improve the general quality of my shoe collection and recently found a pair of black Johnston and Murphy Heritage (made in USA) oxfords at a thrift store for around $10. They're in good shape overall.

Does anyone have any experience with this product line? What can I expect out of them? I'm pretty sure they are corrected grain, but I need to start somewhere and I imagine they are better than the Clark's black desert boots I've been buying every few years.

Regards,

Sometime in the 1990s, J&M went from making good-quality shoes to cheaper ones. At full price, I wouldn't touch a J&M shoe anymore.

That said, at $10, if you get a year or two out of them, you've more than won.

To wit, I own some Old Navy sneakers I paid $13 for - they look good, have (surprisingly) lasted about 5 years now, but are only of mediocre quality. They are no where near as well made as my Vans and SeaVees, but so what, the Vans and Seavees cost about five times the price of the ON ones.
