Most suit and sport jacket pockets come with the pockets basted closed. I open the breast (pocket square) pocket but leave the side pockets closed.

That way I'm not temped to put anything in those pockets and make the jacket bulge or pull out of shape.

It's easy to open basted pockets. Use a small scissors and find just one of the white threads holding it closed. Clip it and then gently pull the pocket open. You may have to cut a few more threads.
