I used to like this look a lot when I lived in Europe and when I first came back to America about seven years ago. Indeed, I remember a guy at Louis Boston, when I was doing some studying in Boston, complimenting me and saying that it was the only way to wear a dark suit to anything during the day that was not a business meeting.
Since then I have seen it so much and in such bad form(shoes too dark; suits too light or vice versa--also wearing light shoes out at night, that I am wondering if my British friends, who say this should never be done (brown w/brown, black with everything else) aren't correct. Bored on a Sunday and thought I would stir up a hornets' nest.
