Can anyone share any historical information about the highly regarded tailoring London firm of E. Tautz, which I believe may have been incorporated into Hogg, Sons & J.P Johnstone at some point?

E TAUTZ....

Hello Medwards.

I see this is an old post that got no love. Funnily enough i had lunch with Patrick Grant of Norton and Sons yesterday here in NYC. Hoare and Tautz merged with Norton and Sons in the early 1970s. Theres some info on wikipedia on the Norton and Sons link.

Patrick told me that Tautz was particularly known for very high quality sporting clothes furnishing togs for everything from polo to otter hunting....

Coincidentally for the next edition of Big Black Book I found a 1960s royal blue silk dj by Tautz on ebay, and for BBB I took it back to Norton to have it retailored. The story and the dj appears in the third edition of Esquire's Big Black book out in two weeks.

E. Tautz was featured in George Frazier's "The Art Of Wearing Clothes" as A.J. Drexel Biddle's London tailor. I think there was an article about it in GQ a few years back, as well. Nick-I'll look forward to your piece.
