It seems every thread I've started is of the "How do I repair this such and such to keep it going" sort. Well, here's another. I have this handed down from dad lightweight tweed that has developed a hole in one of the elbows. The jacket is over 30 years old, so it doesn't owe either of us anything more, but I like the colouring and patch pockets, and would like to keep wearing it. Both arms' buttons are long gone. I would like to find suede or even faux suede patches to have sewn on to extend its life. Has anyone performed a similar repair? I have no idea if patches can be ordered somewhere or if I should go out and buy some material, and take that to my tailor. Thank you for any ideas. Here is the jacket:

The quality of locally available commercial elbow patches is oft iffy.

If there is a leather craft store or leather artisan in your area you might enquire if some deer, lamb or calf skin is available. The reverse of the smooth side is the suede you'd use.

If so inclined and on a budget, a woman's soft leather bag purchased in a thrift store may provide enough leather from each side to be cut into patches. A soft bag may not have a glued liner and the leather of a hard bag woud be glued to an interior stiffener.

The jacket is beautiful! My local fabric store has leather elbow patches - try yours. I would ABSOLUTELY put new buttons on it if you decide to keep wearing it as well. The jacket is too pretty to half-ass by not having sleeve buttons. Buttons are too cheap and important to skip...
