I'm wondering whether anyone has experimented with polishes--creams and waxes--and other remedies to enhance the apparent depth of the finish on shoes. I'm motivated in this primarily by a pair of shoes I own whose finish is very shiny, but looks "on the surface," rather than having a depth, or character, to it. Andrew Harris wrote a terrific piece a while back for SF on antiquing leather, and illustrated his technique with brown shoes. The shoes I would like to do this with are burgundy (or "cordovan") color. Has anyone modified the factory finish of his shoes through a technique that might be similar to antiquing to impart to the color a more pleasing depth than before? Calling Andrew Harris. Anyone?
