One reason I have not been on the forum as much is because been working on my first machine sewing project: three piece suit. First, you need trial garments and the hardest part is pinning oneself, free acupuncture. :p Ha.

The main inspiration is Opa's two-piece DB suit from the late '40s. I love the suppressed waist, high-rise, and no pleats. Being I have larger hips compared to my lower legs, don't need pleats and instead leg width. A suit should improve ones appearance and I hope to do the same.

Part of the reason I bought used pants to find what felt comfortable. Then, for a trouser pattern used pants ripped by a then foster puppy Daithi a couple years ago, adding leg width, rise, plus widened the waistband to two inches to match the cuffs.

The vest I used a vintage McCalls, added lapels so wouldn't look off the rack, suppressed the waist, and considering going from five to six button since I am 6'-2" per what Matt S. said on the Bond page.

The coat is new McCalls which I reduced the lapel width so just a little over half way across the chest and changed the lapel profile with more curve. Further, the sleeve patterns were rubbish, so drafted my own and had reviewed by a seamstress friend. Took three times before got the twisted wrinkles out realizing it was sleeve pitch; I am self taught so doing a lot of trial and "error".

By the way, I was only planning to have the cream and silver dog in a picture, as always by my side, especially when sewing, so figured Serebro deserved credit. However, Ember the Golden insisted being in the picture first, my retired Service Dog. And Daithi photo bombed without me noticing until reviewing the pictures.

So yes, I am eccentric and have a taste for eclectic vintage. Anything else? :p

I thought your hair was now short.....shaved on the sides. Isn't that what you said a few weeks ago? Are these pics older perhaps?
Nope, I still have the Rip Van Winkle look... As I said to someone else, rather be tailoring then looking good for the dogs (too disabled to work).

Last haircut April 2017 took too much off the sides. Once warm weather comes and long enough to donate, will get shorn. Sorry that was not clear.

Ah, I must have misunderstood what you meant in your post on December 30th, when you said:

"I have had all sorts of cuts, buzz, brush, Beatle, even to my waist length. Never seems I am with the times, especially now it is shaved sides and a pile of hair on top. As someone with a narrow face, makes me look like I am wearing a toupee."

Have to admit, I'm still a little confused. Is it shaved on the sides, with a pile of hair on top that looks like a toupee, or is it long all over (ala RVW)?

I thought I already appologized and explained about not being clear? Why rub it in, can't believe I be that dumb. Remember, have had two concussions and since the last things get scrambled and find most of the time not understood. If I didn't have the dogs I was worried I wouldn't make it. Why I avoided social contact for over two years, being on this forum has been the most social ever. I did take a break as Peak quit talking to me and really hurt, almost donated the ties he gave me. Hopefully I don't loose you too...

I never did get a reply to my question. So why not take it fully off topic and answer? :p :pirate:

To me, $40 is a lot of money when $225 of the $300 from the Special Needs Trust is spent on the dogs. Rather spend it on keeping clothes on me as there is no employment, so why bother shaving or cutting my hair?

Figure when Summer comes, cut off close to the scalp in two ponytails for donation (I have really thick hair), then use the dog clippers to neaten and maintain a buzzed length. Then can go back to only needing a bar of soap and not have to by shampoo. When I get Social Security Supplemental Income, then can go in for regular haircuts. Back in December, thought was going to get approved, now have to have a hearing, so seems will drag out for another year. Must be nice to be normal and have employment with a regular healthy income.

Thank you! :D

So the concussions or your disability caused you, on 12/30, to think that your hair was shaved on the sides and to type that on the Forum when it wasn’t in fact true? Ok, sure. Whatever.

I don’t care whether you get a haircut or not, or what your hair looks like. I just don’t understand making stuff up for no reason. Good day, sir.

Can people mispeak? I was not trying to make anything up, just the LAST TIME I had a haircut it was cut too short.

Not that you desire or want to know, however, maybe you or others do, so will extrapolate. A concussion means your brain hits the side of your skull and in doing so, can change brain behavior. I have more sensory integration difficulties after the second concussion, now wonder when tired my grammar also gets off like it used to in my youth.

So you know I am not lying, here are a few articles:

Here is one of my favorite Shakespeare quotes:
And it is very much lamented, Brutus,
That you have no such mirrors as will turn
Your hidden worthiness into your eye
That you might see your shadow.

In application, I can't see my faults unless pointed out. Our brain plays tricks on us. We can read our own writing and makes sense, however, when someone else reads it, they might find fault.

And there is a reason I try to stay off the forum when tired, this is not the first time have made late night mistakes. Bet will not be the last either, just hope not to make near as many and folks kindly point it out.

Must be nice to be a nurotypical. No deficiencies, no struggles, living comfortable and content. Blessed you are.

Cheers.

Adriel, I wouldn't be so reckless with the accusations of NT. Has it occurred to you that a photographic memory and an obsessive urge for consistency might be evidence of a tendency towards AS?

You cut and sewed that Adriel?! Nice project and work. The first real woodworking project I tried was an entire kitchen renovation https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AgLC6sG8s9GK7gEJFnS6Ahgjx5RVhS7x51MWYQLnviM/edit?usp=sharing A suit is about as ambitious. Go for it.
Now drafting my own trouser pattern as the fit wasn't perfect and why not get it right then half arsed?

You were part of the reason I posted as enjoy knowing about our projects as seem to express our sartorial choices. For example, love of color also shows in clothes.

I have a good friend who is his own restoration shop, mostly classic Mercedes with some Volkswagen and once in a while a Porsche (currently a 904). He found the '85 280 TE I am refreshing, though after a scare and slow recovery, hard for me to work as keeps gnawing at me about him. Anyway, once he is in better shape, going to send me some seat covers to duplicate. Haven't talked money through looks like an opportunity. On the 280TE also got ambitious: pulled the driveline and all of the front suspension. Springs going back in seems to need the weight of the driveline. On the engine, did a long block reseal, ported and polished the intake and head (already match ported from the factory), new Sanden compressor (still need to convert the wiring), swapped the power steering pump for a good used, NOS fuel injectors and seals, and going to use the larger radiator and oil cooler off a '79 300TD as the M110s run a bit hot in temperate climate and I'm in the desert. All started with a cracked flex disk that finally exploded as parked it in the garage to do the pull. Transmission rebuilt by a local shop.

I also have done a driveline R and R on a '71 Volkswagen Squareback, rebuilt its 1600cc engine, and fully rebuilt the front and rear suspension. I cut my teeth learning D Jet FI on her, can be a a bit of work to put back to specification after supposed mechanics botching it.

It must be past bedtime, I'm rambling... oops.

Will say again, love the kitchen! That is a great writeup.

Yeah, Shaver has a point here. I'm not sure I should so easily be accused of being neurotypical. But, Ankylosing Spondylitis? Hmmm

Interesting your post didn't show up until FLMike quoted it.

Touché! (As in, you got me there.)

Generally, those critical of Autistics are only nurotypicals, though could be an example of generalization having fault. ;)

One can have ASD tendencies and not have enough to be diagnosed as such. So do we then call these people, ASD or nurotypical, as what is typical? :p

How about annoyingly socially deficient? :p I mean, you lacked the social grace to ask a question, instead becoming belligerently accusatory and took this thread way off topic. ;)

Cheers!

Well I say, good sir, bring it on back on topic! What's your next sewing project?

Thank you for your interest, appreciated. :D

I decided based on WA's input to draft my own trouser pattern using this: https://trantanphat.com/tailoring/drafting/trousers_insts.html.

Had some things come up (right now headed to my monthly GI appointment typing on the laptop in the cab), so only have the front and part of the guide done. Over all, not nearly as hard as made out to be, though will see after get the sloper sewn. :p :D

Also on that site, there is a DB vest that has me tempted... have wanted after get the SB coat sorted to do a DB sloper. This sewing is addicting...

Here is the second sloper sewn. So comfortable I forgot to get the side shot. WA is right, so much better to draft your own pattern. I know there is some fitting to be done, especially the fly (directions didn't include and used from a pattern), just showing at this point.

By the way, figured why not learn to sew in a zipper on a sloper and if mess up, no harm? I got a two gallon bag crammed full of zippers for about $20 (older lady not the most healthy and so clearing out), probably at least couple dozen, a dozen which are 18 inches, and about half dozen 24 inches long. Thanks to a friend suggesting to baste, came out serviceable.

Using the Rundschau Cutting System translated, drafted a second pattern. Despite the issues with the translation requiring some guessing and fixing, far superior to Rhinehart. More calculations/adjustments and instead of being a sloper pattern and have to add in, this is for a finished trouser so produces close to final result. Did add some extra width to the front and rear side seam just in case, always can be removed.

The translation is missing the darts, hopefully Tailor and Cutter can help with adding them.

Someone else recommended this one, https://trantanphat.com/tailoring/drafting/trousers_insts.html This person copied it from someone else. It makes 1970s style/fad trousers. It's in Jane Rinehar's book. Since human bodies are different fittings are necessary. There are so many pattern systems to choose from. Or, invent.
That is the one I was talking about that I have issue with and why I went and tried another pattern. If I didn't like the results of Rundschau, then thanks to you have plenty others to choose from.
