If you are going to wear a thin 1" leather dress belt, should the suit pants or odd trousers have a narrow waistband? In your opinion, what would be the ideal width? Perhaps 1-3/8"? Or would it be even better to go a little narrower and have the trousers made with a 1-1/4" waistband?

Thanks,

Chris

A belt that narrow tends to get lost in proportion to a standard waist band and belt loops, which are generally made for a belt of closer to 1 3/8. For a belt that size, if you are having the pants made, I would opt for a hollywood waist with dropped loops about 1 1/4--provided you can pull off a very distinctive, but classic, look.

Chris, if all you intend to wear a re belts no wider than 1" then 1-1/4" waistband and loops should suffice.
You will be limiting yourself. I would play it safe an go with at least 1-3/8"
I personally like side adjusters although I have many trousers with loops. I keep my belt size to 1-3/8"max for dress belts. And your welcome.

Love it. In my teens. a cousin on my fathers side was a gentleman's tailor, would make bespoke trousers for me and I always requested a Hollywood waist with dropped loops. Not seen too often today.

I just bought my first Tiffany engine turned buckle and I have only one belt narrow enough for it, a black croc Saks 5th belt I found at an estate sale.

I don't like belts, but consider this a staple item so I dived in. The buckle was engraved, so I made a slight modification, adding a Bonnie blue flag detail for fun.

I am bidding on others in an attempt to acquire a second for my own initials.

I do so love what you did with your Tiffany buckle. For years I wore knock-off engine turned belt buckles and then my wife decided an original Tiffany buckle was the only way to go and gifted me with one with my initials engraved. She's a keeper....both of them!;)

Thank you for the complement!

The engraved ones are much less expensive, around $75, but the idea of wearing someone's else's initials seems weird. So, I tried to come up with a way to modify the buckle. I am looking at other options as well.

You may find this useful. See particularly the comment from the Trafalgar associate.
