I found a 34R OTR designer suit - how common place are such sizes?

While searching in a local suit retailer, I noticed a rather nice Hugo Boss suit in a 34R. I couldn't believe my eyes!

Suffice to say, I tried it on an it fitted like a dream. Though the 28" trousers would've needed replacing with a 30". Otherwise, it was a brilliant slim fit that required no tailoring adjustments.

The jacket was also the perfect length.

I have trouble finding 36Rs in most shops. I didn't even know that a design would even make a 34.

How common place are 34" OTR suits of this nature?

Lots of designers make this size, but usually send them overseas (especially to Japan). A 34 regular (or Italian 44) is much more common in Japan than a 40 reg. I'm a 38R with a 32 inch waist and felt like an elephant compared to all of my Japanese friends, who averaged about a 28-29 inch waist.

Shoes are the same; in the USA getting a 10-11 is easier than getting an 8, but in Japan, a 10 or 11 seems gargantuan and requires you often to go to a "big and tall" store.

A Japanese friend of mine came to visit me a few months ago here in the States and he actually took a photograph at the shoe store of a size 13 pair of Nike's. He'd never seen anything so gigantic. :)

most ready to wear manufactures have size 34 in their pattern room. its the retailors that decide what to order for the season. the manufacturer only cut what is ordered. stock size 36s can be ordered as a single if given enough lead time. some retailors will have their customers come in when the factory rep comes to take orders. ask your retailor about this. you can look at the fabric samples and a suit or two can be included in the seasons order.the only drawback is you must wait till the orders are cut. this may be as much as 6 or 7 months. but then you dont have to settle for what happens to be hanging on the rack.

With the obesity epidemic which is ravaging the American population, I would say finding a 34R OTR suit is difficult. I was going to mention that this particular size is very prevalent in Asian countries (Japan, Korea,..etc) owing to the general smaller stature. However, with the influx of American fastfood, I suspect that in a generation or so such small sizes will cease to exist.

I've never seen this size at the stores I frequent such as Brooks Brothers, Nordstoms, Last Call, Off-Fifth. One of my sons is now a 36S and some Brooks do not carry that size anymore. The Madison Ave store still stocks it.

I'm a 36S. I'm hoping to work out like crazy in the next few years and maybe I can wear 38S (which is much easier to find)? is it possible?

I know it's tough to be taller, but having a wider chest should be do-able, right?

the only downside to this is: The CEGO custom shirts wouldn't fit anymore. :(

To the Original Poster, are you Asian? I am hoping to get some nice jackets on my next trip to Asia.

small sizes

i had to fit about 50 men and 200 women from singapore and bangcock, over six weeks. we used american rtw sizes off the rack. most of the men were 34 and 36. a few were ones that worked out and were 38 and 40. they all needed waists and seats taken in. only 2 out of 50 were large sizes. the women were mostly size o and 2 with only a couple of larger sizes. we ran out of size 0 by noon the first day still had 6 weeks to go. the amount of alterations was huge. almost 100 percent of the skirts had to be taken in at the hips, they all had narrow hips. american girls have bigger hips. boy am i glad thats over.
