Now I'm feeling the urge for cuff's, call it peer pressure if you like.:icon_smile_big:

Question is, do I simply purchase trousers unhemmed and then have a tailor finish the job? I am 6' and will go with the 1.75 to start.

Your thoughts gentlemen..

Yes. If unfinished isn't an option, buy the pants longer (try to get them in the longest length possible) and then take them to your tailor. I always wash mine first to control any possible shrinkage after the cuffs are in place.

Cheers.

Red, thank you sir. One more question, albeit a basic one I know. Inseam, as I understand it, is the inside length of the trouser. So for example, if an inseam is listed as say a 37 I can have the trousers hemmed to my inseam of 32? It is one of those little things that bug me..

Thanks..

Yes, you can. I always wonder, though, if longer pre-finished pants don't have other changes to the pattern, like a higher rise, that might not be desirable.

In most cases, they do not. Be on the lookout for pants tagged "long" or "tall," as these will indeed have a longer rise. Unless you're shopping in the big & tall section, however, most pants will have a regular rise regardless of their inseam length.

Mike & Topsider, Your posts were actually at the heart of my question. Was it simply a matter of inseam length or would there be differences in rise or indeed the pattern.

Thanks..

I thought I had short legs for my height too! I usually take a 30-31" inseam depending on how tapered (or not) the openings are.

A = Cuff width in inches
B = Trouser end width (1/2 circumference)
C = Shoe Size excluding width

A = B/C x 1.75
Professor JamGood

Why is there a negative relationship between shoe size and cuff width?
