How to get shirts feeling soft without using the dryer?

i typically hang dry most, if not all, of my clothes.

this, however, leaves them feeling stiff. even after an ironing where they do become a bit more drapey, they're still pretty stiff.

thoughts?

I put all of my shirts in the dryer, let them tumble for an hour on the no heat setting, and then hang them up to dry after that. I find them perfectly soft after ironing.
