What do you have against a dryer?
The fluff which accumulates in the filter of a dryer previously comprised the fibre of the cloth. One's garments deserve better treatment.

Also, "2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss" according to FEMA website.

I've been machine washing and drying my shirts for over 50 years. They are neither bedraggled nor dingy, but rather bright, smooth and soft.

I experience little to no shrinkage tumble drying on medium heat. Of course, as I wear my shirts full, I suppose if there is any, it's of no significance. While I can appreciate the necessity that shirts tumble dried must encounter more theoretical abrasion than those line dried, mine, if anything, only seem the better for it. But since I've got more shirts than I could wear out in how ever many days the Lord grants me, it's rather a moot point anyway.

The one bit of advice I would offer to the OP, and anyone else, irrespective of whether you line or tumble dry, use Downy Free liquid fabric softner. Makes a world of difference in feel, ease of ironing and even helps minimize wrinkling when wearing.

"Some of the most harmful ingredients in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener alike include benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders), limonene (a known carcinogen) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen), among others." source Scientific American.

That "fluff" is great for the compost pile! And you can buy long brushes to periodically clean out the vent.

I dry all my clothes for just a few minutes and then hang them up to dry.
