I recently purchased a Mark cross umbrella and was looking at a leather Mark Cross attache case. The Robb Report several years ago rated the Mark Cross attache case in it's top five.

Mark Cross men's goods are no longer sold in St.Louis. How good are their products ?
Is anyone aware of their umbrellas ?

Mark Cross ceased operations years ago. Their work was essentially on a par with Euopean luxury marques but never quite got to the level of Hermes or Gucci. Given that they were an American company, they always lacked the allure of being imported. However, they were definitely a step up from Coach. Personally, I treasure the pieces I have, and miss the Fifth Ave. flagship. It had beautiful inlaid wood everywhere.

I had a Mark Cross umbrella. It had a silver band at the base of the handle with the Queen Mother's royal warrant on it, because it was made by Swain Adeney Brigg.

I got it during their going-out-of-business sale at the store in Atlanta, so I paid about $30 for it. I don't know when I lost it, but I miss it terribly.

The Sara Lee Corporation will shut down its Mark Cross leather-goods business and the unit's seven stores by February after failing to find a buyer for the business. The closing comes four years after Sara Lee bought the 152-year-old maker of handbags and briefcases and six months after the company started seeking a buyer for it. Sara Lee acquired Mark Cross, whose goods are also sold at some department stores, to fill a higher-end market than its Coach line was reaching, the company said. Instead, Coach has increasingly appealed to Mark Cross customers. The Mark Cross and Coach units had combined revenue of more than $500 million last year. Some Mark Cross stores may be converted to Coach stores, the company said.

I have had my umbrella for about 25 years. the teak handle came loose. Can the handle be replaced ? I enjoy the umbrella , your description is very accurate. The handle has a silver
band , I thought the lion on the silver band was a Mark Cross crest. I reattached the handle with super glue. But would like something more permanent

The lion is indeed the Mark Cross logo, but the silver band is a subtle signal that the umbrella is a Briggs. My next one was from Dunhill and had their logo on the band. Check out www.classicluggage.com for contemporary styles to see what a Briggs band looks like.

You may be able to get Briggs to repair it properly for you.
