I don't consider myself a follower of high fashion, and am certainly not a hypebeast, sneakerhead, or a trendsetter/follower. That said, I have knowingly committed grave sins against the Ask Andy community by at times opening the wallet for a sweater or pullover from Hugo Boss or Emporio Armani (via eBay, mainly, truth be told)- I'd never classify either as high fashion, but they're the closest I'll get to 'trendy'.

My wife sent me the below-linked article about an American designer (who I'm not familiar with) publicly taking the famous house of Balenciaga to task for their design choices of late, typified by some really not handsome sneakers. I liked the article, and many of the comments after it, and am posting to get a discussion flowing if anyone's interested.

Jullianne Escobedo Shepard is clearly one foul mouthed writer! Not impressed. :(
Oddly enough, that seems to be the only way that many millennial writers know how to express themselves. I see a lot of self-loathing and insecurity in her words.
edit: If it's really a her. One never knows these days.

Not impressed by the language. Didn't get past the first sentence either.

Honestly, I once told a young man who I had the chance to give some advice to. He had just dropped the "F" bomb in a speech to a very elderly man. I told him that he didn't make any friends by swearing.

Virtually every person that I know my age and younger talks like this. I was taught to communicate eloquently and without vulgarity, specially in public, but I have found that lately and more often, people speak like this at work (!) , in public, and generally everywhere . I have even found myself doing the same thing without even realizing it. It's an epidemic of mediocrity and an assault on civilization in general. It has become increasingly diffcult to have interactions without profanity being spewed at meetings, movies , TV or radio.

That being said, I was able to read the article without needing my smelling salts.

The shoes are an abomination. Relentlessly hideous. Balenciaga is just another empty label with no connection to the designer that founded it.

In fairness to Balenciaga, they are not the only ones putting out such sneakers costing north of $750.

At least with their core competency, women’s couture, they still turn out some classic designs.

Swearing is an important part of my speaking style, it must be done with great care though. This writer didn't really have a lot of valuable insight and used the F word to make her article seem more hard hitting.

However, it seems she knows who her audience is.

These shoes weren't quite as ugly as the Gucci fur lined flip flops I saw in every store in Vancouve last fall.

Zhe represents a particular audience, one who are not widely renowned for their intellectual rigour nor emotional stability. The article is almost certainly ideal for its intended recipients.

I note, also, the blatant misandry within zir usage of 'dad' as a term expressing poor taste, ineptitude and worthlessness.

This from a creature so finely attuned to imaginary slights that zhe discovers Islamophobia, Transphobia, Fat Shaming etc in such unlikely sources as the X-files television programme .
