Did you buy it in a retail shop or from eBay, consignment shop, etc.? If the latter, what does it matter, as long as you like the tie and believe you got decent value for your expenditure? Speaking of, how much did you pay?
Ebay. I paid $120. I would be lying if I said I wasn't enticed by the branding of Dior. I'm not too experienced with clothing, so I can't even tell if the material is considered good.

I liked the design. Not sure if I was scammed for the price I purchased it at. I thought I would at least find the tie noted in a former collection.
The tie is probably genuine, but it’s hardly worth $120. Dior isn’t known for quality.

I find few clothing collections documented online. You might find old runway photos, but those don’t usually represent a whole seasonal collection. You’re likely to find more from the past decade, but not two decades ago like this tie, which would not have even been sold online.

You know little about ties, but spent $120 on one of mediocre quality from a fashion brand on eBay? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to do a little research beforehand?

If you‘re serious about purchasing quality ties, take a look at the Sam Hober website.

I don't know what a good tie is even supposed to feel life bud. I purchased this one because it said it was 100% silk and I believe that's high quality. I purchased it because it was verified to be legitimate but I couldn't find anything on it. I wanted a skinny tie which I couldn't seem to find in normal retailers, and I assumed a Dior tie would suffice in both quality and the appearance which I already liked. I'm still going to use it regardless.

Again, all the more reason not to plunk down $120 on a tie when you are clueless. Do your research first so that you're a more informed consumer, and you will greatly reduce purchasing mistakes.

If you want a skinny, high-quality tie for a fair price, I recommend ordering from Sam Hober. They can make a tie to any width and length you like. I know that many others here can vouch for the quality. Equivalent ties usually cost two to three times as much as theirs, and they use the best silk.

Absolutely agree. Hober ties are the best value in the market.

I totally agree with that. I've gotten about five ties from Sam Hober. They are great and many of them are in the $120 range!!

Well, if you like the design and want to wear it, why not? It's not like $120 is going to break the bank. Wear it when you dress up and go out. Everybody and his uncle wears Sam Hober. I'm confident you'll be the only one wearing one of these and that in itself is worth something. Don't let the self-appointed critics get you down. Develop your own style and go with it...

The tie does not look like anything I have seen offered by Sam Hober, but I agree that Sam Hober's offerings are attractive and represent good value. I think Chipp represents good value, too, but the offerings are more limited. Both Hober and Chipp are more likely to appeal to the habitués of the Trad board. I think the statement about developing your own style and going with it is ultimately what Ask Andy is about, but the advice offered is to help ensure that in doing so you adopt some tenets of thoughtful and attractive dressing. $120 may or may not break a given bank, but it seems awfully high for this tie. Many folks shop carefully and knowledgeably for used ties, and the prices are usually quite far below retail. I have yet to encounter a used tie that did not have at least a bit of tell tale oils from necks and aftershaves, and I have been less than impressed by ties that have been cleaned and pressed. Too often they get flattened, and while using high quality cloth is important, so is construction. The work that went into making a tie is easily obscured by a bad pressing. I don't agree that everybody and his uncle wears Sam Hober, but it is awfully popular here for good reason. There are other excellent lines in that $120 price range, but the ones I know of will fall into the Trad camp: Atkinson, Seaward and Stern, Breuer, and the store labels from places like O'Connell's, Andover, and Press. Perhaps a few members who regularly frequent Timeless Style can offer some brands that are more in line with current fashion.

Chipp ties are a good value and owned by a great guy who is very funny - I spoke to him once and it was a great pleasure. He also warned me ahead of time about a grenadine price rise...

My only regret is that he told me he is not going to write a book.
