Wow...this is not good to hear. I wonder who will make the house brands for JPress and O'Connells now? Seems like the Canadian manufacturers are doing well, i.e. Empire, Samuelsohn etc.

They definitely have not been for J Press for several years. I was still getting Hertling trousers from the Andover Shop through 2020 (have not tried since), but that may have been working through older stock?
Sounds about right. Im a big O'Connell's guy and they transitioned a lot of their private label pants that were formerly Hertling made. The description for their trousers on the website switched from Made in USA to Made in Canada for a lot of Hertling made products. Maybe early 2021 ish.

Troy Guild shirts were fantastic. I grew up wearing them as any native of Troy, NY would wear them. My father sold them in his clothing store in Troy. Still have some that I wear frequently. They are like iron. Troy is known as the collar city and Sanford Cluett invented the detachable collar there as well as the process of Sanfordization to prevent shrinkage in shirts. Cluett & Peabody is still in Troy, although they no longer make high end shirts . Troy Guild moved some of their operations to Glens Falls NY sometime in the laste 70's.

What is in a name? Names exist that have very little relationship to what they were - Gant, Troy Guild to name 2.
It doesn't automatically mean the products are bad. It means they are not what they were. One must evaluate the quality and how a product works for you.
I think this is put perfectly. And this will be the same story with the Hertling name if it lives on. I did continue to buy from them in the last 4-5 years under the new ownership, and the products were of similar quality. But, they did not seem to make the direct to consumer transition very well. I have no idea if this contributed to their closing or if it just more related to the changing times and what people are buying.
