A hobby of mine is amateur dramatics and I am soon to appear as a police constable in a murder mystery play.

On trying on my costume, I noticed how extremely well made the trousers were - very nice dark blue serge, well constructed with plenty of useful pockets (including one for a truncheon/nightstick, should you require one).

I also once owned a US army officer's overcoat which cost me £10 from a surplus shop. It was practically indestructable and very warm.

Has anyone managed to wear military surplus without appearing like an extra from 'MASH'?
