The last few years, I've been wearing your standard department store canvas shoes, like these St. John's Bay from JCPenney. Decent shoe but they aren't really made for walking and wear out by the end of summer.

Has anyone tried the Voyager shoe from
Brooks Brothers? I'm looking for something to wear with short and t-shirts or polos untucked. Preferably under $100.

Picture me on the Vineyard in those babies. Or at the Citgo station since I'm not sure where the Vineyard is. Here in New England some place. Barack, Michelle and me, we'll meet up there in our finest Purcells. Consider them. Jack Purcell was a world famous badminton player in the 30s. Badminton is a pansy form of tennis, but more macho than ping pong and those sneaks are perfect for all three. Don't scoff. Jacks rule. Ask James Dean.

I like boat shoes and penny loafers but for summer walking it's hard to go wrong with a pair of Sperry CVOs. Cheap, cheerful and they have an unusually thick, generously padded insole.

I had a similar pair of Sperry's a few years ago. It seems like a lot of them (purposely) don't come with laces. It's the style or something.

I'd be too afraid to try and wear those. They look nice though.

I've been wearing Mephisto's Hadrian Perf shoes for the past couple of summers (I wanted something Resort-y but not too Resort-y), and I've enjoyed them. Kind of hard to buy online, because the fit is big (I usually wear a 10.5 to 11 shoe, but I'm a 9.5 in the Hadrian, so be advised!)

It's basically perforated suede, so it's breathable-yet-snazzy. I like the navy, myself.

I've actually set up a home office on my covered terrace (it's about 500 sqft, and too much goes on inside the house, and I have comfy summer clothes, so WHY NOT), and I look very professional there in my Tori Richard cotton lawn shirt, linen shorts, and Hadrian Perfs, tap-tapping away on my MacBook Pro making moves (and posting on forums). When civilization restarts, I'll definitely dress up my poolside presence in these.

I think it's been more than a year that you've been tempting me with the third shoe down. If I didn't already own several similar ones that get all but no wear (and none now with Covid-19), I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Hence, Jeff, if you can fit it into your budget, I'd advocate for the third one down from the top for no other reason than that I really like it. But as noted earlier, to your specific need, SeaVees or Vans are good, reasonably priced (especially on one of their frequent sales) options.

I may only be buying slippers for the rest of my life! 😢
I use driving mocs as my slippers and have several (bought on deep discount) in reserve. To your point, I might never buy another pair of shoes again.

I've noted this before, but since switching to WFH (in '12) and with the rapid adoption of biz-casual and all-casual dress codes, I basically am now the curator of a small museum of very nice '90s and '00s business clothes all in one size, 40L suits, 15/34 shirts, etc., including a lovely exhibit of size 11.5 business shoes, with a small, but nice section representing Aldens.
