Hello Gentlemen,
I was looking for an old thread where someone recommended the laundry detergent from a company called "Nancy Boy".
I have purchased it a couple of times and it is great stuff.
I don't know if the prices have gone up or if I am just getting cheaper,
Well now it is $20 plus $5 shipping for a 30 washload bag.
Great stuff but a little pricey and I'm wondering if there is something else that's good abut not so pricey for washing delicates etc.

Pricing on the necessaries seems to have really gone up during this pandemic...the old sell less, but charge more principle!

Probably not the least expensive way to go but I use Woolite along with a scoop of Oxi-Clean. Works great!

OTH I heard that using a cup of white vinegar and nothing else in the wash works wonders. I've never used it, has anyone else? That would probably be the least expensive way to go.

I use Mrs. Meyer's for everything. Some of the scents are terrific. My favorite is geranium. I use about half the suggested amount to no ill effect.

I'm not sure what the actual scent is, but my favorite is "spring fresh!" Adjusting the amount of detergent used to meet the actual need is a practice that is good for your clothes, good for the environment and yes, good for your pocket book.

Does that make any diff to the recommendations above ?
I'm talking about that fancy $30 underwear, wool socks, thin hi-tech t-shirts, etc.

Dishwashing detergent is supposedly more effective than the laundry detergents. We use it, because it's enzyme-free, and we really don't want enzymes reprogramming our immune systems. For white cottons and linens, we add baking soda or washing soda (and use hot water). For silks, we use conditioning shampoo, since silk is a protein, just like human hair.

IMO even more important than what brand (I'm team Kirkland as well), is how much detergent you use. For years I've used the recommendation from a washer repair guy I had come out for my last machine, and even more recently there's a lot of info from a number of sources supporting the same contention, that the "line of the cap" is WAY too much, and I can't help but think this doesn't help with the longevity of clothing, delicate or otherwise. It just Dawned 😲 on me that's a great idea! In my book, The Encyclopedia of Men's Clothes, How to Remove Stains Chapter, I recommend shampoo for "ring around the collar":

The "dirt" on your shirt collar after a long day isn't really dirt! It's not that you don't have a clean neck! The stain on your collar is a collection of melanin pigment from shed skin cells, since the shirt collar is the area that has rubbed off the most skin cells.

I use Tide Ultra Stain Release Free which is a Target only detergent. It's similar in composition to Tide Free and Gentle but better. There's also Persil Free and Clear but I have noticed that isn't as widely available as the scented Persil or most of the Tide detergents.

All Free and Clear is pretty cheap but it depends on your stains.

We used to use various free and clear (Tide or Kirkland) liquid detergents, but the past year we've been transitioning to these sheets:

They work well, and it's so nice not to have to carry, store, pour, possibly spill a big jug of liquid detergent. I usually soak whites in Oyclean. Or use their spray, if I'm in a hurry.

I toss my Tiger Mountain boxers and my merino Pantherellas in the load with everything else using Mrs. Meyer's. The socks air dry, and the boxers dry with everything else. No issues have surfaced, and everything seems to have a very long life.
