Does anybody know who makes these shoes for Brooks Brothers? I am trying to decide between the AE Strand in Navy and the Golden Fleece wingtip in Navy. Are the Golden Fleece worth the extra money?

I have several pairs of AE as well as a few pairs of Peal & Co and Paul Stuart and one pair of EG. Does anyone have any feedback on how the GF compare to these other brands? (I know that EG is better quality) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have any personal experience with them except of the awareness and having seen them in person.

Besides the cost, I’m typically skeptical of private label Italian made shoes. There are so many shoemakers in Italy and there’s really no way of knowing who makes them and to what extent they are actually made in Italy.

At least with Peal & Co you basically know what you’re getting. The same with Paul Stuart’s English made shoes which are basically made by Crockett & Jones and at one point by Gaziano & Girling.

In my opinion, for the price of the Golden Fleece shoes, you can get high quality English shoes which are a known quantity and quality.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't really like the BB Golden Fleece Navy in person when I checked them out yesterday at the 44th and Madison Store so I took advantage of the 4 for $199 shirt sale and picked up 9 shirts, combination of business and casual.

AE was already closed when I left but I stumbled into Carmina on 45th Street. I didn't like the Navy Cordovan model they had but I did find a pair of brown suede split toe loafers that were to good to pass up. It is my first pair of Carmina shoes but I have only heard good things so I am hoping it will be a good addition to my rotation. I may go back and pick up the AE Strand in Navy before the sale is up.
