I need a new pair of glasses. I'd like to get some "tortoise-shell" P3s. I see them at Focusers, and I see them for rather more at Ben Silver, and I see the 406 at Anglo-American. I also see that Focusers claims there are imported from someone called Peabody-Pierce Ltd. in the UK, but the only hits online for that name are the Focusers' website.

That aside, is there any real difference in quality or appearance among these? Has anyone seen them each to compare?

I have had the AA 406 frame for many years and love them. I also have Focusers "Trim-Frame Poor Boys" sunglasses. They are ok, but don't have the silver "dots" on the end tips (not sure of the correct terminology), and the shape is just a bit off somehow. I wouldn't want them for everyday glasses. The dots are a small detail that makes the P3 in my opinion. No experience with the Ben Silver option, but not sure how they are worth approximately $150 more than the AA frames. Good luck with your decision.

I have had these Dewalt models for several years and they are the best bifocal glasses I have ever worn, I usually don't even realize I'm wearing them. They are very comfortable and reading glasses come in a variety of strengths. They're plastic, so they're prone to scratching, but they're affordable enough that replacing them with a new pair isn't a big deal. The very affordable price allows me to have several pairs that I leave in my shop in different places.

You don't specify if you need prescription lenses or just readers, but the Moscot Miltzen is their frame in the classic P3 shape, and has the "dots" (rivets) you mentioned. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you might look at their Aidim frame, which has the same basic shape but in mixed materials (acetate and metal) like a browline frame such as the Shuron Ronsir.

I got the Aidim about nine months ago with prescription lenses. I placed the order online, but I had recently been in New York and tried on frames in one of their stores, so I knew how they looked on me and that they would fit.

I also should have mentioned that Moscot's frames are available in several widths. In the past this has been a problem for me—my head is large but relatively narrow, and many frames are too wide.

I have a pair of La Fonts I wear daily. I believe they are one of the maker’s Ben Silver stocks, but I got mine from a different shop. I plan to keep these frames as long as I can. Great size and style, seem to hold up well.

I am currently having new lenses made for my new BS LaFont frames that I've had for a while (log story) and a new pair of LaFont Frames for sunglasses. I ordered the sun glass frames to replace a really old pair of Anglo American frames that my previous sunglasses were in. They wore well and I am replacing the sunglass frames with one size larger than my regular glasses. Should arrive early next week. La Font really does hold up well and that is what my glasses shop carries in Asheville NC..

LaFont here too from a local shop originally. I took a bad fall not long ago and ruined them. Luckily, I found the exact pair on eBay for around $100. I'm 70 years old and retired so I didn't want to spend the retail price of $350 again.

The only reason I'm replacing the current frames is same as you. I took a bad fall and before I was able to see if the older ones could be fixed, I had already ordered a new pair of frames. New lenses for these new frames should arrive this week along with new frames for sun glasses as well.
