You heard (read) that right -- we are in the process of creating a Podcast for our site, and need to give it a name.

The podcast will initially include narrated versions of our articles, and discussions related to our most popular threads.

Then, we'll be looking to get the community involved, and will be asking for volunteers of our community to help host/co-host certain episodes!

In place of simply calling it the "Ask Andy" podcast, we thought it would fun to give it an even more memorable name.

If we wind up using a name you suggest for our podcast, you may just get a personal visit from Andy and myself, thanking you properly & in person (once the country opens up, of course)!

So, any ideas?

Since I got a request for this naming thing, I'll give it a try:

Style and Substance

Khakis and Tweeds

Sartor Resartus
(apologies to Carlyle, of course)

Grey Flannel

And, sorry, but I couldn't resist:

Pity the Uomo
Might not be the best for the purpose, but I personally love "Grey Flannel."

Your first two are outstanding.

Had to Google "Sartor Resartus" (State school education and all) - it's also wonderful.

My sincere thanks for your positive and kind words, @Fading Fast. I am honoured. And yes, I am fortunate enough to have had a classical education, but I try hard to wear that lightly.

A bit of history to the name you liked the most:

At one time, I used to do a fair amount of quantitative modeling and statistical consulting for various researchers at two or three universities. My basic degree, a BSc (Honours), is in mathematics and mathematical statistics, with a lot of applied data analysis later on in experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience, especially during and after doctoral work.

Grey Flannel Consulting was one of two names I considered seriously when I was thinking of making my consulting work into a business.

The reason is that I agree with G Bruce Boyer who wrote, in Eminently Suitable, that a tailor he respects once said that a grey flannel suit, mid-grey and classically constructed, was an absolute "badge of sincerity" for any man. A consulting firm with that name would convey integrity and rectitude rather well.

My second name was a pun: Statcraft, transformed from statecraft. Not sure how many would have got that pun, LOL.

By the way, I did my consulting mostly for free, as a helping hand to those who did not understand statistics. Most of my American friends thought I was crazy not to charge handsomely for the work, but I simply was not brought up to ask for money in return for help.

That world of my upbringing is long gone, and I mourn that; it's like the world of noblesse oblige in the martial community into which I was born. History!

I really like Grey Flannel.

I was thinking about other possible names, and really liked the idea of a name that included the word “boots.” I thought that might resonate with younger members (and new younger members) who might listen to a podcast. I started thinking about ideas that might attract this younger group.
Then it dawned on me.

Why ask a bunch of older guys for a podcast name?
Unless that’s the target audience, why not get input from the younger crowd?
