I'd be in the UK this coming weekend to visit with my brother and his family and he mentioned Gieves & Hawkes as a good bespoke source. Anyone here with experience to share and what are your thoughts gentlemen?

I've heard they're excellent, if you like the house style. Please don't ask me to explain what the house style looks like...

My first thought is that a bespoke suit takes several fittings - do you intend to return at least twice in the next few months to finish the process?
House style? Do please explain.

As per returning to the UK, I will be able to return there a few times if need be.
I can explain what a house style is, but I'm not going to be effective at explaining their house style.

The house style refers to the design elements that allow you to recognize the make of a coat from a distance; before you see the stitching on the lapels or the functioning cuff buttons. You can usually spot an Armani suit right off, for example

Some companies are known for sack suits; others for jackets that taper substantially. Trousers might be roomy or drainpipe-narrow. Companies with a nautical, or hunting, or military heritage might design their clothes specifically to fit comfortably during those activities.

The best thing to do is check out their web site and look at the models. Yes, they're all young, slim, and good-looking, and you may be all or none of these things. But can you see yourself wearing their clothes?

I just found out that Gieves and Hawkes has a shop at Brown Thomas in Dublin, where I will be in late April. Unfortunately, I'll only be there for ten days, perhaps long enough to get in a second fitting, but I don't know when I'd be able to get back for the final one. :(

I was concerned that their shoes were now made by Prada, and they ALL looked like that...
