Fred Astaire is my icon of style ....

In his early career, before the movies, Fred spent a lot of time in England on the London stage. He became enamored of Savile Row tailoring so he was wearing bespoke before he made his first movie. While his black and white movies were great, and Fred in tails was always a pleasure to watch, he came in to his own with the color movies of the forties and fifties. Since he always played a show biz type, he wasn't constrained to dressing for business. From 'Blue Skies' with Bing Crosby, to 'Daddy Long Legs' with Leslie Caron, he was always the epitome of style. And it was all his own. Whether he wore a belt buckled at his side or a tie casually tied around his waist, these kinds of nuances became his tradmark. Fred in a grey flannel db worn with brown suede cap toes, set off with pink socks and shirt, insured him of having an immitable style which has never been equaled.

semi-hijack

Maybe because of all the accolades for his style Fred doesn't get anywhere near enough appreciation for his abilities as an interpreter (not the right word but I'm late and the right one's not coming) of songs.
