I think I've been convinced to reconsider and go with a leather band, at this point in time I'm still a fan of the rectangle shape and I think silver goes with more of my wardrobe than gold... I found this gorgeous Cartier but its a bit expensive but I found this Longines that is very similar . It comes with Roman numerals on the dial or just with silver line markers , I personally prefer the first model... Any other ideas???
Thanks

Old idea...
I'm looking into getting a new watch for more formal events and these are a few I've been looking at... which ones are more formal, black or silver face, or less stuff on the face...

Many people would argue that you shouldn't wear a wristwatch to a formal event (I'm assuming you mean black tie or white tie). It's a festive occasion, and to be looking at your watch takes the fun out of it.

If you mean for wearing with a suit, video2's advice holds. Except a nice rectangular watch like a Cartier tank is just as good. Stick to leather bands though.

Add me to the leather strap on a dress watch crowd. Round, tank (rectangular) or tonneau is mostly personal preference.

With the Baume & Mercier watches you posted all I believe either come in a leather strap option or you can easily purchase a good aftermarket one and swap out.

I prefer white or silver face and that seems to be the more traditional
