I need a new pair of formal shoes to wear with my evening dress / tux. I prefer lace ups. Anyone know where I can get a decent, non-plasticity pair at a good price? Thanks.
I have intermittently seen AE's patent offering (I forget the name) on ebay at sometimes shockingly low prices.

I for one will be wearing well polished PAs instead of a patent shoe.

The A-E model is the Copley, seen here:

For about the same price, you could also look at Brooks Brothers:

For a lower price, you might try to find the Florsheim Aspire. Amazon used to have it, but it seems to be out of stock:

Another approach, which could work but I don't know any details, would be to try to find less expensive patent leather shoes at a military supply store, or something like that.

Another much less expensive option may be seen here. I have no notion of the quality:

Here's another option (as long as we're continuing to ignore your preferences for a. lace-up and b. affordable price)...anyway, I like these from Paul Stuart. They are a slipper but much less fey than the low-vamp bow things frequently seen and they also are a matte finish, which in my mind is preferable to patent leather.
