fixing divot in Aldens

This a.m., to my horror, I discovered that I had somehow made a semicircular tear about half the size of a dime in the right outside surface of my Alden chestnut calfskin tassel slip-ons--I must have kicked or brushed against something sharp when I wore them last week.

The rent is semicircular, and consists of a flap of leather that is plowed up but still attached to the shoe. The wound goes all the way through the cured surface of the leather, down to the inner, nappy part of the hide, so this is a real tear and no mere scuff.

Does anyone have any experience with a shoe-repair place (mail order unless located in the MidAtlantic region) that can fix or at least cosmetically camouflage this kind of damage to fine shoes?
