Recently, I tried out some of the so call slim chinos at Target and H&M. I thought I was a skinny guy, but eventually I am not. The issue is apparently at the knee. My knee cap sticks out and creates sort of an unattractive bunching around the kneed cap when I am standing up. The rest of the chino appears to fit though.

Since slim fit didn't work, I figure the skinny fit would be either worse, so I tried the athletic cut, which I envision as people that look like football players. To my surprise, it had exactly the same problem.

I just want more fitted trousers, I don't really need to be a sausage.

Did you try on any of the regular fit chinos in the same brand?

IMO, H&M is better for say, a cheap Henley or t-shirt that is destined to last for a summer. If you have any type of musculature on your legs, their pants will fit you like tights. Try j crew.

So you won't have to keep shimmying into too-tight pants at malls throughout the tri-state area (?), try this...

In a Walmart type store buy a vinyl measuring tape. They're 60 inches long, snip it at 13 so you won't look dorked out when you use it in store. Grab a pair off the rack, measure down 13 inches from the crotch. This is where most knees are. Then measure across. Put back anything under 10 inches.

Maybe try a store that doesn't sell disposable clothes.
"Disposable clothes." Those words pair up so beautifully. Don't you love how they sound together? "Disposable clothes." Thanks, Mike!

Time to turn this thread into a poem.

DISPOSABLE CLOTHES

To all of you lean and fit fellas
Who are cursed with protruding patellas:
Hide that small defect, as everyone knows,
By simply avoiding disposable clothes.

No need to fear pants that are classic.
I promise: You won't look Jurassic.
Hem them with no break; they'll hang straight and trim.
And ladies will still know you go to the gym.

Here's a tip to find trousers that drape:
Get yourself a cheap measuring tape.
Then deploy it in stores. Go on--don't be shy.
And use it to figure which pants you should try.

Cotton chinos tend to wear quickly or get massively dirty, so my thought was why spend tons of money if the chino wasn't going to last the year.

I was surprised that there were enough skinny men who can wear this stuff.

I've had great luck with Uniqlo. I'm not sure if they should be grouped with fast fashion brands like H&M, or at least, not on the same tier. I have a few pair of their khaki pants. They have an agreeable silhouette and seem very sturdy.

I bought their Kando pants. Slim fitting enough to get compliments, but not so slim where you can't bend your leg. They are so thin material-wise that they can be folded up to the size of a handkerchief. Great for traveling.
