Hello everyone,

I found trim high waisted sleeveless cardigans at The Armoury (I can't believe it!). Was wanting something that would allow me to wear braces without needing a jacket (but I plan on wearing a jacket over it on occasion). I don't want bulky knitwear (and this one isn't) but is it too fitted though? I can see some rumpling under the sweater from the shirt (which is relatively trim fitting). My jacket size is a 38 and my waist is a 30 while the dimensions of the sweater (laying flat) are as follows:
Shoulder: 13.5in
Chest: 18.5in
Waist: 15.5in
Length: 22.5in

The bottom buttoned button is resting on my belly button which is also where the middle of the trouser waistband is.

Thank you for your perspective.

I normally find sleeveless cardigans can look frumpy on people, but I love how that looks on you, especially with the razor sharp pleated trousers.

I think it looks great, as long as it's comfortable to wear and doesn't ride up.

If that is an issue, I'd contact the armoury and get the dimensions on their next size up.

I don't think knitwear being as tight is as big of an issue compared to shirts and jackets because they naturally have a lot more stretch.

The trouser fabric is Scabal Dupioni Silk 4oz. My tailor stumbled across a couple old yards and let me have it for the same price as regular wool. I couldn't afford retail pricing.

Peak and Pine - you mentioned something I had not considered previously - shirt cuff length. What is the visual effect of a shorter vs longer shirt cuff? The shirt in the photo has a 3" cuff length and it seems the cuff length varies from 2.625 - 3" in my wardrobe.

@Matt S I think posited that a longer cuff length looks better with longer collar points.
And I think that makes no sense.

Maws, I think a longer barrel, especially if it's pressed as a barrel (ideally around a form) rather than flat, is just a look. Means nothing. Except that it's a look I like and it looks good on you. Like anything outsize, it draws attention, not much, subtle, but still. Care should be taken to iron it right, maybe with a little starch.

Yes. My shirtmaker does 3.25" collar points and cuff length (on all different cuff styles, with larger buttons on one-button cuffs for balance). They don't need to match perfectly, but a short 1.5" cuff won't look right with the long collar points. Collar points should consider one's height as well as face size, while cuff length is dependent on arm length. Short arms and long cuffs don't work, so a balance for everything must be determined.

I'll chime in and say it looks great but I think its borderline tight. I checked the Armoury site and , if I'm looking at the correct cardigan, these cardigans are sold by chest sizes rather than by S-M-L. If so I would likely go up one size.

Four ounces? That's 95 to 120 grams.

I thought the lightest weight fabric for tailored garments that existed was six ounces (155 to 180 grams). Four ounces seems like lining fabric and shirt fabric.

I think it's fine.

Americans are too often terrified of things which just *fit*, hence all the bagginess one sees here. That actually fits.

The crucial factor, of course, is "does it ride up with wear?" If you're constantly "adjusting" (like a woman in a tight skirt), then, indeed, you'd size up. Visually, at least, it works.

(Indeed, a simple definition of "does it fit?" could probably be "as close-fitting as possible while still staying put".)
