Hi folks, I'd be grateful for a bit of advice on the purchase of a first blazer/odd jacket.

I've been looking for a solid navy (I'm hoping to have something versatile that can be quite smart) but have been unable to find anything off-the-rack in my (very slim) size.

I've only been able to find one blazer (in any colour) that fits, which is an italian/british style olive houndstooth with elbow patches. My complexion is very fair, so I think the colour seems to work in that respect.. I'm just a bit hesitant in that all the advice I've read encourages Navy as an initial investment!

I'd be paying just over NZ$600 (US$520ish) for the one I've found; it does appear to be well made, though unfortunately I can't recall the make. Alternatively I'm thinking I could take a risk on a cheap Topman blazer onine and get it altered if necessary, for potentially less than half the price.

Any advice appreciated!

If you're only going to have one, make it navy - it will be far more versatile.

Navy, and if you are looking to spend $500 US, you should be able to get a MTM (made to measure) navy blazer quite easily at that price point.
