When wearing a face mask with a coat, tie and pocket square, should the face mask match either the tie or the pocket square? Or should it be treated like the pocket square and coordinated with the shirt? (I always “coordinate“ my pocket square with my shirt and never “match” it to my tie).
I ask because I am seeing some tie manufacturers offering matched tie & face mask sets. My gut instinct is: “No, too fussy. Would be like matching your pocket square to your tie. Which I think is in bad taste.” But then I started wondering about matching your face mask to your pocket square (considering how easy it is to make a face mask out of a pocket square). Not being a fan of disposable things, I dislike paper masks, and not all cloth masks are basic black or white (realizing that the only “truly trad” face mask may be a white surgeon’s mask).
