When wearing a face mask with a coat and tie with a pocket square, should the face mask match either the tie or the pocket square? Or should it be treated like the pocket square and coordinated with the shirt? (I always “coordinate“ my pocket square with my shirt and never “match” it to my tie).

Just today we renamed the forum, I think a good thing. I expressed my thoughts.
For a while I felt that we had run the gamut of things sartorial from the dyeing process of the yarn in socks to the geographic locale of the weavers to the color coordination of ones complexion and eye color in choosing underwear.

I felt we were becoming stale in topics and hoped for some new infusion. Lo and behold, covid brought it to us.:devil:

I would select all of the above if that were an option. Coordinate with anything you want, just as how a pocket square would coordinate. But I selected shirt because I either wear light blue surgical masks or white KN95 masks, which would only match my shirts.

I have a basket. This basket has a label. It reads: “Everything that I care about.” Due to limited space in the basket and advancing age on my part, there are only so many things I’m willing to toss into the basket. Inconsequential things don’t make the cut. Something that didn’t make the cut: taking care to coordinate my COVID-19 masks with other stuff that I’m wearing.

Wow... Lots of hostility here. Seemed like a legitimate question. Thank you BSR. You confirmed my initial assumption. Perhaps I should have “justified“ my question by saying that I’m seeing some tie manufacturers offering matched tie & face mask sets. My gut instinct was: “No, too fussy. Would be like matching your pocket square to your tie. Which I have always thought is in the worst taste.” But then I started wondering about matching your face mask to your pocket square (considering how easy it is to make a face mask out of a pocket square). Not being a fan of disposable things, I dislike paper masks, and not all cloth masks are basic black.

I don't really wear a tie or pocket square, so I end up using the same co-ordination as a pocket square.

I find a burgundy cloth mask works with all my shirts and sports coats.

If I had to wear a tie and PS I'd probably just go with a black or white mask, otherwise too many busy looking colours.

I ask because I am seeing some tie manufacturers offering matched tie & face mask sets. My gut instinct is: “No, too fussy. Would be like matching your pocket square to your tie. Which I think is in bad taste.” But then I started wondering about matching your face mask to your pocket square (considering how easy it is to make a face mask out of a pocket square). Not being a fan of disposable things, I dislike paper masks, and not all cloth masks are basic black or white (realizing that the only “truly trad” face mask may be a white surgeon’s mask).

I always match my face mask with my boxer shorts or the band stripe on my watch if not I'm not wearing my Sub.

(However, as I noted above, my wife is fetching in her Johnny Was mask, although it clearly goes best with a loose fitting pale blue cotton shirt and suitable shorts.) As for disliking disposable items, I agree heartily. So I spritz my mask with alcohol front and back every day or two.
