This is an old saddler's formula for stripping tack for renovation. Caution!I've used this on period attache cases, firearms cases, horse tack and riding boots. Like any cleaner, try it on a small obscure spot to test first. Take one bar of Castille soap.Shave @ 1/2 into 2 cups of hot water and stir into a slurry. To this add 2 cups of ammonia and pour into a 2 liter bottle. Top off with additional water. Use a sponge to apply. This will produce a bubbling foam. You must both wipe this off with a clean moist sponge and IMMEDIATELY apply a leather creme/conditioner of choice. This formula literally strips all dirt, waxes and natural oils from the leather fiber itself. Once clean and conditioned you can make a cear inspection of the stitching, remaining dye colour etc for repairs.
