Hi everyone,

Just wondering about this basic alteration question (and please forgive my newbie ignorance): is it easier to take in, say, an overcoat than to have it let out?

Seems to me that tailors would prefer "taking in" a garment because they have more material to work with and thus greater control over the results. Or is that simplifying it too much?

If the garment was previously taken in and then needs to be let out again, there will usually be enough fabric. I've had this done on a few suits since I gained a bit of weight. But if you're buying new, it's better to go up a size than down.
