Sorry for posting this on both forums, but anyway:

What's the word on the Dunhill suits on STP? I see they have some pretty interesting patterns that would be great for going out at a pretty reasonable price, and I vaguely remember heraing good things about Dunhill. However, the descripton on STP doesn't say anything aobut whether it is canvassed or fused, which usually means that the suit is fused. Any opinions?

I have not purchased any Dunhill suits recently, but I purchased two a few years ago from the Dunhill store in San Francisco, before it closed.

At the time, and I assume now as well, Dunhill had a couple of different levels of suits. I forget the exact nomenclature for each level, but the lower line was fused and used lesser fabrics. It was really a little bit more fashion forward--sort of an English Z Zegna I suppose--and not particularly well made. The higher line was made by Zegna, was fully canvassed, and hand a fair amount of hand finishing. The higher line, which was the line I bought, was actually a pretty good suit, and I have gotten some very good wear out of mine.

It sounds like the ones made in Japan are best avoided. If you see any others made in Italy or the environs that have retail values of $1600 and up, you're likely looking at the higher end. Though, again, I do not know what changes Dunhill may have made to their lines since they closed down all but one of their US stores.

Saks No Longer Carrying

Are there any Saks in the US that are still carrying Dunhill? I know Boston was though when I visited today they said that they got rid of the rest on their last sale. They at one time had a custom / mtm program for Dunhill too, so that was extra disappointing. I am guessing the NYC store might if any does still exist. Any info would be helpful.

I assume that Saks in the US carries Dunhill made in Italy garments because I just saw many of them in four different Off Fifth stores last Saturday. Although I can't comment on Dunhill suits made in Japan, I have a Dunhill navy blazer labeled "Made in Italy" (headed for ebay because of sizing issues) that is excellent quality. It retailed for approximately $1100 and features full canvas, extensive handwork, pick stitching on the lapels, etc.

I really like a lot of the patterns on their shirts and ties. the shirts are a bit full for me is the only problem. the suits looked nice, but i never thought they were anything special that i couldn't get elsewhere. i don't own a dunhill suit so i can't speak to the quality.

hopefully, they get picked up by nordstrom or bloomingdales
