Hey, what do you expect? I am a retiree. I relocated to central Florida and purchased a home in a development that is ensconced in a golf course and what is effectively a nature preserve, with several beautiful nature trails that are just begging to be explored. Leisure rules and the clothing I kept (after the move) and wear regularly reflects that reality. My daily uniform consists of chinos, vented fishing shirts, with the sleeves rolled to the elbow (I think the count is up to 17 at this point), and boat shoes or penny loafers. Suits and sport coats are reserved for Sunday services and even then, I am part of a very small minority that is wearing anything more than the casual wear that I described as my Monday through Saturday uniform(s) or, even worse, shorts and printed T-shirts:oops:! Five suits and perhaps 9 sport coats remain in my closet, mostly unworn. I fear that inventory of more dressy garments will continue to shrink as time passes. Egad...I think I may be going native! LOL.

^^WA, you are absolutely right regarding the blazer designs utility.
A navy blazer is indeed a 'must have' in every gentleman's wardrobe. Four hang in my closet at the moment. If I have a blazer in any color, but navy, in my closet, Iam blissfully unaware and must consider such to be just another sport coat! LOL. ;)

A well structured and logical assessment of a troubling issue for many of us. Thank you, my friend, for presenting it perfectly. As for me, my Mama insisted that I wear a coat and tie to Church when I was not much more than a toddler and I have done so for more than six decades. I think it may be an ingrained habit? These days, when the wife and I pass through the doors leading into the Sanctuary each Sunday morning, I am one of perhaps two or three people out wearing a coat and tie...and that's OK. After all, I'm not dressing for the crowd!

Thanks again for a great post.:)

Mr B. Scott Robinson, your post #60, seen above, convinces me to embrace you as a spiritual mentor, but first I must ask, how long do you intend for those wearing clashing leather hues to remain in purgatory and has wearing two unmatched shades of brown position me in the 'deity's gunsights? LOL. ;)

It depends where you live and what you do. America is still largely a frontier country in mindset and people value practically over peacocking. It's slightly different in Europe and other places where people rightly or wrongly have more tradition of dressing up all the time. I notice that in large, international cities there are plenty of well dressed people. Well dressed does not always mean a tie. I like that there has been an explosion in sport coats and blazers of varying descriptions and soft tailoring, it's a style I like and I ascribe to personally.

Better a well put together semi-casual outfit than a bad suit and tie in my view.
LOL. Speaking as one of the more '*******' colonials, to be found in this "frontier country" to which you refer,I am inclined to agree with much of what you say. However, I would argue one possible point...if one had a sense of style sufficient to cobble together "a well put together semi-casual outfit," would they not also possess the sartorial finesse to also select a stylish, well fitted suit to wear? ;)

^^No offense taken, my friend...I'm not really that deep! I was just enjoying the humor of the moment, but thank you for the clarification. "Turner's Frontier Thesis" sounds very interesting. ;)
