I bought a pair of Ferragamo a few years ago and really like the shape of the toe. However, it seems I can no longer find shoes looking like these. Nowdays, the shoes either have pointed toes and somewhat rounded. Can someone enlighten me about the proper name of the toe shape in the pictures and where I can get similar looking shoes. Thanks.

You might look at some of the Italian makers. There are square-toed monstrosities by the likes of Kenneth Cole, but there are also more nuanced takes on the wider toe, like these Norvegese construction from Borgioli:

These that Ron's offering on eBay have a fairly substantial presence in real life:

DocH has a great example of how the wider toe can look good. The ones you posted up there are a bit too wide and look awkward to me.

Why would you want a pair like those posted?

Those are monstrosities. They look like something Herman Munster would wear. Look at some of the Italian makers which are not so fashion forward as are many Italian shoes with pointed toes are. A not too pointy chisel toe would fit today's styles.

Well, you asked for it!

Those that you have look like orthopedic or therapeutic shoes. Either because of foot shape issues or because of the need for diabetics to avoid pinching the toes and creating circulation problems, wider toed versions are common.

Here's a slip on version:

Here's some with a less squared look:

Of course, it's entirely possible that whoever designed the shoes you have intended them to have that look as a shoe fashion. However, as you may have gathered by the tenor of many of the posts so far, I'd say that you are either going to have people frown on your choice of a rather clunky shoe style, or sympathetic looks from those who think you need to wear them for corrective or medical reasons. In order to discourage the former and elicit the latter, affecting a slight limp might help.

I'm just curious why it is that you can't go back to the source from which you obtained those shoes and see about getting more, if that's what you want.

The proper name is "dimensionally challenged footwear that is ugly as sin".

He said he couldn't find them anymore. Presumably that includes the maker of the shoes he has now.

Do you like the shape of the toe because of how it looks, or because you feel that's a key to what made the shoes comfortable?

If it's the former, that obvious of a square toe has come and gone from the fashion world.

If it's the latter, and Ferragamos are in your price range, you might want to consider Aldens. Specifically, the kind that are offered through orthopedic shoe stores, rather than men's shops. They would offer the toe width you need without being unattractive.

Stick with the english made shoes and you will have classics that will last presuming you get a higher end shoe. The likes of EG, C&J, Church Alfred Sargent even some of the Loakes. They do make a slightly wider toe in some lasts but not square. Alden makes derbys on the Barrie last or the Plaza last which is a much more sophisticated look. AE also has some shoes that might fit your request but still not a wide square toe.

Doc. Love both those shoes. Where did you get them? A website perhaps?

So everyone here condemns my prefence for this particular toe shape. While I agree it is a little squareish comparing to everyone's prefernce, but it is hardly the monstrous square toes put out by KC, like this one.

I feel shoes should somewhat reflect the natural shape of human feet. I would say my preference shown in the original posting is closer to that ideal. Otherwise, we might as well as all walk around in football shoulder pads.

Unless your toes are all the same size, this shoe doesn't accomplish your goal either. And "hardly" - it's closer to your example than not :icon_smile_wink:
