Does the canvas sit in between the lining and and the shell? Or are there two layers of the shell (an inner and outer) that the canvas sits within?

The lining is just that, a lining. The canvas lie within the construction of the jacket.

I have several unlined jacket that are canvassed so there’s really no correlation.
