I have several moderately-wide spread collar shirts that I wear both with a tie and without a tie. The shirts are twills and french oxfords.

I've been using the collar stays when wearing them even without a tie.

I'm wondering if I should take the stays out when wearing these
shirts essentially as sport shirts with the collar button unbuttoned.

The collars curl slightly without the stays, but are a bit stiff with
the stays.

I know I can wear them however way I want, but........

What do you guys do? Take collar stays out or leave them in
when not wearing a tie?

I leave non-button down collar shirts in my closet when not wearing a tie. :icon_smile_wink:

Anyway, I don't like collar stays. I wouldn't wear them without a tie. I don't wear them with a tie when I think I can get away with it.

I leave them in with or without a tie as they keep the collar rigid.

Don't . . .

. . . wear shirts with collar stays sans tie by themselves, generally. However, will wear them tie-less under a sweater, and then with no collar stays. Otherwise the stays will push their points into one's collarbone.
