Digital Watches

I have a problem with analog time pieces, especially unnumbered ones. I often have to stare at them for several seconds before I can decipher the time, and some of my friends have the same problem. It is quite frankly embarrassing. We also have to recite the entire alphabet to isolate the relative location of one letter, I don't know what the hell it is.

Is wearing a digital wristwatch considered appropriate for formal wear? Are there quality digital pocketwatches?
