So my tailor just got my jacket shipped back from Italy, and they misunderstood the order which called for mother of pearl buttons, and they made covered buttons for the jacket instead. However, it's intriguing me the more I look at it, and I'm contemplating keeping it as is rather than have the buttons exchanged. I think it makes the burgundy color accent pop in a very interesting way. I think it will also make the jacket more versatile, what do you think? Keep them, or go for mother of pearl?

I would go with the covered buttons and see how I liked it. Nice jacket. BillC

MOP buttons and get rid of that ridiculous burgundy affectation. It doesn't make the jacket look custom...it makes it look RTW and goofy unless this is solely for holiday wear, IMO.
I agree on all counts. Covered buttons are best for fancy dress, dinner suit jackets and flashier suits. They look odd to me on a sports coat. Mother of pearl would look better.

I'm not sure if it's possible to redo the contrasting buttonhole without messing up the jacket. They're popular these days but usually signify cheaper clothes.
