Summer is shot - I haven’t been to the office in 15 weeks and it may be September before I go back. Not that I mind, I am not a fan of summer dress - I miss my flannels and Shetlands.

I’d like to buy some corduroys. I’ve never owned any. Most likely I’d wear these to the office or just out and about. Probably with a Shetland, maybe OCBD and tweed. So a dress trouser and not 5 pocket? I’m thinking 8-10 wale.

Recommended vendors? I’ve looked around, even back at the turn of the year, and most places aren’t 100% cotton. I know there’s always O’Connell’s, but I was thinking more starter price to make sure I like the style before spending $200+ a pair. And I do want a nice rise (11.5”+).

The cloth from Velluto Duca Visconti di Modrone in the Peterman trousers is especially nice and thick and velvety. They're made in Portugal, and the construction is good, but not up to the cloth.

Since you're new to corduroy, the wales are explained but fairly obvious, but in terms of appearance, 8-wales is what most of us are accustomed to, and fewer wales yields a cloth, that while lovely, is quite rustic in appearance. Peterman is having a sale now, if anything strikes your fancy, but in limited sizes and colors.

Evil times indeed. I looked at old threads but it seems even in January all I could find were "stretch" trousers. 😕

I'll check out Peterman. Worst case come October I'll just buy from O'Connell's. 😊

I usually buy RL on line. There are often some amazing deals and a very forgiving return policy.

I have multiple pairs of super cords. Love them. (They are VERY generous in the seat and thighs. Good for me, but if you are looking for a slim fit cord, look elsewhere.)

great selection, a bit pricey. High rise, side tabs on one model, belt loops on another. Drawback might be button fly but zip fly optional, I stay with buttons. Hemming also optional, they are the best cords and moleskins I own and I like the fact they come with brace buttons.

I was about to say what is said above, just not as well. Definitely Cordings if you want great quality and traditional fit. They also come in a wide range of great colours.

I have only had them ship to me once and it didn’t seem too pricey. Of course getting anything shipped here from the US or abroad if fairly onerous. It takes 3 weeks to a month to get a pair of pants from Murray’s and costs almost $50.

This is what I've thought. Herring gets me shoes in a couple of days via DHL for £20. I've bought items from Chester Jeffries and Equus that, while they take a while, are a fraction of what Cordings wants for shipping.

I bought a glorious cardigan on sale from Cording's and it came in a very reasonable amount of time. Price wasn't bad, either. Of course, I never buy anything from them at full retail . . .
