"Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" is ISP Lingo for "Account Needs Funds Replenished".
We've all seen this at one time or another. Unlike my CustomShirt1.com or Chuck's CarloFranco.com e-commerce sites, maintaining this forum is something Andy does out of the goodness of his heart.
Because of the great quantity of their bandwidth we use, his magnanimity is expensive. Anyone wishing to assist in defraying the cost of the StyleForum.net and AskAndyAboutClothes.com can do so by sending contributions through PayPal as follows:

Ask Andy About Clothes:
PayPal Address: [email protected]
Style Forum
PayPal Address: [email protected],net

Please note that this request is:
A] Not a request for free hosting as the forum needs to retain its independence and ability to moderate as seen fit without regard to personalities.
B] Certainly neither requested not sanctioned by Andy. Though he enjoys posting, assistance is something he has ever asked for. However, if you enjoy the membership as much as I know many do, it's certainly got to be worth $5, $10, $25 or even more every few months.

You'll pardon my forwardness If I keep making inane posts to keep this topic on page 1. Of course, you could too.:)

EDIT
Please Note: I am no longer advocating for contributions to the Style Forum.

Thanks for the suggestion Alex! Consider it done ... in fact ... it now is.

Not my place to say thanks ... but as a fellow member I appreciate the companionship!

You know, Malinda, sometimes you suck bigtime. I just looked through ten pages trying to find this thread and bump it back up to the top only to find that you stuck it there where I would NEVER look. Hummpf.

Maybe you could become a moderator Alex. Better still; maybe you and the shooman (me) could become moderators. lt would make for a very interesting board.:D

If I can make your life just one iota more difficult, then I've succeeded.
I agree! I purchased Andy's book as a show of support, and would be happy to send in a bit every now and then.

It would be great if Andy could let us know what it would take to make the site a bit ...- no, a lot faster. It is very frustrating trying to catch up on info and having to wait so long after every click. Maybe we could start a pledge drive to raise whatever would be neccesary to upgrade the system.
Just for the record (l think l owe Andy an explaination since l have made quite afew posts)l would have no problem buying Andys book and making a donation but l would never use a credit card for oversees purchases. lt's just me, l am alittle paranoid. The main problem is; l have to pay $20.00 for each bank check (cheque) - which would mean Andys book would work out to double the price. That's the only reason l haven't bought it as yet.

lf Andy or Malinda could provide an address here [where l can send a cheque] l will send a donation.

First, it was terribly late last night to try to deal with the diametric opposition of these two thoughts.
Now, it is awfully early this morning ... and they still don't quite reconcile.

First to you, Ms. Malinda. Wonderful mood you're in today. Perhaps the responsibility is just too much for you? Maybe you need to take a break. How's this: Finish out the day. Pack up your things. Go take a trip. You've earned it. Come back when you can smile ... which in my experience with you to date has been Never! #@$%!!

Shooman, us as moderators just wouldn't work. You've been known to provide some really insoleful information ... and I occasionally manage to come up with a tidbit or two which ain't a yoke.

But basically, you've gotta admit, we like to be the bad boys. Not like missy malinda up there. Cool, calm, collected ... always. Now, on the other hand, if 'twere you, I, bblake, and maybe Alias - THAT would make for some interesting knockdowns. Man. Ton 'o fun we would be, no?

As far as that address thing, Andy may not want to post his for obvious reasons. You could send it to me. If I don't cash it, I'll give it to him at the Regency event. :)

I will not be bringing the delete button to the exposition in New York. Please do not throw things at me.

Alex and Shooman as moderators? Perhaps I will put off retirement for a few more years.
Gentlemen and ladies:

Thanks you for the contributions. What we will do very soon is transfer the site to a different, more personal, server who is also suggesting a separate server for the Forum (but you won't notice that, you'll just notice that the Forum will be faster).

Thanks again!

Andy

What would it cost to really give your sites adequate high quality bandwidth? I probably spent $400 on my dialup ISP last year sitting overseas reading the site from rural China.. Feeling guilty a few months back I bough a couple of encyclopedias (had Andy only send 1, the rest a donation to the cause.)

Is it the case where the sites are $500 short a year or $5,000 short a year???? Surely people buying $400 shoes and $3,000 suits can donate enough to keep their favorite sites open, fast and viable.

Whoa! Please don't shoot the messenger! Just look at me as the cheerleader trying to get you guys to buy one less tie (sorry, FIHTies, sorry Chuck) and to use the money to help Andy and J keep AAAC and SF up and running. Ah's jus' a membah lahk da rest o' y'all. Just maybe a little bit older. :D

On second thought ... buy 6 fewer ties, scr*w the fora, and order a shirt.

Perhaps selling a banner adv spot at the top of the forum page would generate enough income to move the forum to a more robust server. It might even generate a little bit extra. Because the forum is very high quality, specialized traffic, the banner adv spot should be worth a tidy some. Just a thought based on other forum business models.

marc_au,
I hope you don't mind me posting this but it seems I can't email you. If you want I can send money via my Paypal account for anything you want from Andy. It's pretty easy.
I send money.
Andy sends you acknowledgement.
You direct deposit in my Westpac (Bank of Melbourne) account. You can do this online or over the counter.
If you want to do this, email me. I don't mind at all as I make a lot (too many?) overseas purchases. I have other friends who hate sending money online so it's no big deal.
Anybody know this guy, Kabbaz-Kelly & Sons Fine Custom Clothiers
