Hello!

I am in the market for a new Baracuta G9 and I am unsure what colour to get. I have found a very cheap one in Navy.

I like having few versatile clothes and so this jacket will have to be wearable with all combinations of pants/sweaters.

I have 3 pairs of pants - 2 green and 1 jean. My sweaters are grey or navy.

I am unsure where contrasts are supposed to be - ie, should the jacket contrast with pants or sweater or both?

Would a navy sweater with a navy jacket on top look really dull?

Many thanks for any thoughts!

My general rule is choose one neutral and then use the color wheel to pick two contrasting tones. If your Baracuta is navy, you're limiting yourself, especially with only two colors of trousers. If you wear the grey sweater and the green trousers, you need a jacket in reddish tones. If you wear it with jeans, look for something rust-to-orange.

I feel that a navy jacket over a navy sweater, especially with jeans, really needs something sharply contrasting like an orange silk neckerchief.

YMMV

To offer a different side of this still flipping coin, the most common casual pants are khaki and probably the least common are navy (other than denim). A khaki or tan jacket and khaki pants looks weird in my opinion. A navy jacket looks great with anything other than navy, and it even works with denim that looks even the least bit faded.

I wouldn't care for some greens with navy, others might look rather nice.

Grey with navy is a natural, navy and navy problematic.

A tan jacket would be universally wearable with all the items you mentioned.
