I too am interested in this. I can tell you the Black and Decker Steam Advantage line is NOT worth the money.

Ditto on the interest - I would also like to know what kind of features to look for, my current iron is as basic as it gets and I dont use starch but this iron was used a few times by someone who is a starchaholic so I am concerned about build-up on the iron. Any advice would also be appreciated.

Ditto on Rowenta. I'm not sure which model I have, but it's a great iron. It puts out so much steam that I never have use the spray head and I almost never have to use steam bursts. I do have to fill the trough after every three shirts, though :icon_smile_wink:

The Rowenta items are great. I have two of their irons and one of their steamers. The prices can sting a bit, but given what we spend on clothing it's a worthwhile investment.:icon_smile:

get something with a separate mini-boiler.
iron will be lighter and better steam
non stick plate
tefal and others do them
go for a small one if you do little ironing but the large ones are great for 'ploughing' work

We have had two Rowenta and both were worth the money. Our most recent model DZ-2060 was purchased at Target.

I have Rowenta combination iron and steamer. It replaced my dying clothes steamer and allowed me to give my daughter my Rowenta iron. No regrets. The difference between the Rowenta and its less expensive cousin is worth the extra cost.

I don't know whether they're available in the US, but Polti (an Italian company) and Laurastar (Swiss) produce domestic versions of professional irons.
Polti is cheaper and more compact than Laurastar. However, the Laurastar comes with an integral board - the tank beneath which is filled with water - which inflates (if desired) and a sleeve-board.
Both are powerful steam irons.
Laurastar is available at Harrods and Polti is available either via mail order or Argos (a down-market retail chain).

1+. I also used the BB & Beyond 20% coupon. The Focus is quite a bit cheaper than the Advancer, and has Rowenta's newer soleplate (with about 400 steam holes), which is why I chose it over the model with the separate water reservoir.

I did just score an advancer and I can say that the volume of steam that comes out at the push of a button is almost unbelievable. its a very nice gadget which both holds a lot of water and is capable of using a lot of water. I like that it has a thermostat and auto shut-off.
