LOL. Member mrslaavw, it appears, gave up waiting for a response in November 2007! However, in response to the question he asked, my choice would be, hands down, Alden. :beers:

Really? Over C&J benchgrade?

This questions are always a bit funny anyway. Which is better? They are different shoes. By the way, I don't know about 11 years ago, but the price points are narrowing and are at parity between Alden and C&J mainline shoes, so any consideration as to price is out the window.

Perhaps the only thing in fashion and style more subjective than men's shoes are women's.

My answer is that there is no way you should do without either.
I kind of agree. Alden excels at more casual style and shell cordovan. Everyone should have a pair of Indys and at least one pair of Alden shell. For dress, shoes, C&J gets my vote over Alden because they are just more elegant and C&J has a far wider selection of oxfords.

C&J makes some excellent boots and casual shoes as well.

C&J uses shell corodvan as well though not as many offerings as Alden. Still, one can special order a particular C&J style in shell Cordovan where as this option is not available with Alden.
