Carmina has a pair of shoes on sale that I would very much like to buy.

They're a UK 11.5 on the Rain last. But on the Carmina website, the last description states "Available in D, EE and EEE widths."

I'm normally a 12 EE/EEE in American sizes. I emailed them yesterday asking what the American size would be, but so far have only received an auto-response email.

Anyone here have any idea?

Cheers.

Just an update: I did hear back from Carmina and they replied as follows:

Dear Mongo,

Thank you for your email. Please find our size guide attached.

You can find information on our different lasts here: https://www.carminashoemaker.com/about-last
We provide E/D as a narrow fit, EE as a standard fit and EEE as the extra wide option. Unless otherwise specified, the width would be a standard fit.

So, I'm going to interpret this to mean their 11.5 rain last is actually a US 12.5 EE.

I've pulled the trigger, so we'll find out, I guess.

These are the shoes in question:

Those are handsome, for sure.

I appreciate the EU to US sizing conversion, I wanted to check out the brand, but take a narrow size. Sounds like E/D would fit that bill.
I'm a D bordering on E width and standard Rain is comfortable. If you have a narrow foot with low instep, the Simpson last might be a better fit for you. Rain also has a wide heel which doesn't work for a lot of folks.

I found this very confusing.

I have a lot of Carminas. None of them have a width listed. They are all size 9 in standard width. I am a D/E in most AE lasts like SL above. I determine my Carmina sizing by the last not the width label. I have seen some shoes are available in a wider version of the last, but never the labels you have listed.

If the Rain (of which I have many) in EE is what they consider standard then I suspect EEE is really just a wide American E. If you are an EEE I expect you will find them snug.

Inca, Rain, Detroit and Soller are wide in descending order. Oscar, Forest and Uetam are normal width in descending order of width. Robert, Queen, Alcudia, and Simpson are narrow with Simpson the narrowest.

Their explanation is confusing, I agree. I have seen "D" and "EEE" width as an option for MTO, but never E.

I don't have a wide foot, but need width across the toes. I can wear Rain and Alcudia in the same size, but not Simpson.

sorry to revive a year old thread, but was your assumption correct? My interpretation was different than yours, but I'm no expert. Sounds like their standard width is what they call EE and what "we" in the US call D, and that their EEE is equivalent to what we'd call an E. What was your take after receiving the shoes?

Spot on IMO.

Inca is if anything the other way: a US D-ish heel and a C/D toebox. Rain is probably more what you are looking for. Same D heel, but a toebox that is somewhere between US D and E.

I wear a size US 10D/E depending on brand and last, and a UK9 in Rain is perfect. For Inca, I can't cram my foot past the middle unless I go up half a size, and even then it's uncomfortable.
