I recently secured a fantastic camel overcoat at an estate sale. The catch is that it is missing its buttons. In the internet age, it's the work of a moment to find junky plastic buttons, but where does one get the natural-material buttons that belong on a tailored garment? I checked the Hanger Project without success.

Swapping out buttons on blazers and sportcoats has become a bit of a hobby of mine. I've purchased from both Britex Fabrics and Benno's Buttons. I find Britex has a user friendly website and fast delivery. Benno's has a larger selection.

Ps. This won't impact you, but for some reason, Benno's Buttons has an archaic ordering system for international orders. You have to print and fill out a form by hand, sign, scan and upload to place an order.

I somehow missed that Tender Buttons - only a few blocks from where I live - closed. That's a shame.

Not inexpensive, but a darn good selection and a place I went to many times over the several decades I've lived in NYC.
"Tender Buttons" in your post is hyperlinked. When I clicked on it, it took me to eBay not for buttons, but a copy of "Tender Buttons" by Gertrude Stein.

Oh I know. Same thing happens to me and it's always bizarre where it goes.

A very pretty store front.
You are right - it was a charming place visually inside and out. It's close by, so I'll try to stroll by and see what they are doing with the building. Hopefully, it's got historical preservation protection - be a shame to loose it.
