Burgundy blazer

I stumbled across a burgundy blazer today. I know BB has an unusual, though accepted bottle green one, but how would this community react to a burgundy one?

No. Too much pattern and I don't like matching colors. I'm not a fan of that tie. I'm certainly not a fan of that tie as paired with that jacket.

If you're going to wear a tie, I'd recommend a solid color, perhaps navy. Perhaps a knit weave to keep it casual. Or perhaps no tie at all. Some may say that's heresy but with a sport coat, I find it acceptable.

As for a pocket square. Again, keep it simple; white with a TV fold.

I love Isaia but they tend to employ big, bold patterns and colors. You don't want anything else you're wearing to have to compete with it. It's a fine line between stylish and clownish. Learn that line.

I will more than likely skip the tie. I'm thinking light blue shirt and beige/white pants would be a good combination.
Personally I like the color and pattern, as long as it doesn't look "clownish" I'd keep it. I'm a huge fan of Isaia too but I'm not sure how other people think about their "bold" patterns.

If doesn't look clownish by itself. And Isaia is a very well regarded and well made brand. As for the bold colors and patterns, that too is fine as long as you understand that and tone the rest of it down.

SG_67 knows more about these things than I do, so go with his advice.

If you have the option of keeping it or not, the jacket alone is only one piece of the puzzle. The important and unchangeable piece is you. Your degree of contrast, your hair color, eye color, complexion. One purpose of clothes is to help you look good. If the jacket on you doesn't help you look good, the jacket's quality or whether it looks good by itself isn't important.

Once on this board an experience member recommended shopping with a talented oil painter because the oil painter creates colors by mixing colors and therefore has a good eye for colors, complexions, skin undertones. The advice's purpose was to help people avoid buying things that are lovely on their own but unhelpful for the particular wearer. If you have an eye for these things, then you are good to go. Otherwise, if you are willing to publish your face here, someone with a good eye may be able to advise. Although, colors sometimes are not accurate online. Even better, if you are not confident in your own eye and have a friend with a talented eye who could see you in the jacket, in person, they may be able to advise regarding whether the jacket helps you. If your friends are not that gifted, take the jacket to an art gallery and solicit opinions of people who seem to have eyes for color.

I don't really know what other people think about bold patterns, either. But then I don't dress to impress the unknowable majority.

I have a sports coat very similar to that from Joseph Abboud and I like it very much. There is nothing wrong with maroon or burgundy in a sports coat though in a full suit it's rather much. Have fun with your clothes.

I agree with you; however, you have basically allowed the jacket to carry most of the load with that outfit.

Also, you have years of great experience knowing what looks good, what clashes and what doesn't clash. Few people have an eye as trustworthy as yours. The advice is for someone who is learning.

I know you could find a patterened tie that would work with that outfit. Average guys could easily go wrong and end up with a gaudy clown suit.

Being colorblind this has always been a challenge for me. I appreciate everyone's help and input. I've learned a lot from this forum over the last 8 years. My very first suit was a Hugo Boss. I've come a long way since then!

Obviously there is a big difference between a monochromatic burgundy blazer and a sports jacket with some burgundy elements.

I generally pair this with medium to light grey flannel. I don't really do white pants, so can't comment there.

What color vest are you wearing? I really like this combination. My problem is even when I know the color I still end up ordering wrong items. Unfortunately online websites don't do a good job describing the colors. These are two beige/off white pants I just received from Yoox. One is apparently light green and the other one is apricot. My girlfriend finds it hilarious but I just don't see those colors! Both were described as sand.

Just remind her that red green colorblindness is X-linked so it really is the woman's fault. I don't like those pants with that jacket at all. And the dark shirt is not good either. That isn't to say you can't wear a lighter trouser with a darker jacket. Just not that combination. Sincerely, color blindness and on-line shopping probably is not a good mix. To me that jacket is not a good fit with pastel colored trousers. Maybe a mid charcoal grey would work well - something with moderate contrast.

Bummer! Sorry you have so much trouble, can you have someone help you order or purchase?

By the way, this artist not seeing the apricot, in that not an orange tone, more of a yellow tone, as a tan, so can see it being called sand.

Someone needs to have their eyes checked if they think a mint green is sand.

No, you don't want that look. You really, really don't, even if you're bowl legged like that guy. And you don't want to be photographed holding a mimosa either.

The webmaster at Isaia got confused and stuck up a Sears photo. You don't need that. The problem with those super narrow pants in the pic is that, unless they're wool, they look like jeans and while jeans with a jacket often plays well, it's gotta be no tie and open jacket. No pool side with tie, ever. The jackets you've shown so far have all been very decent, tho in low light, so tell me they aren't all shiney like pool guy's, who I believe has applied butcher's wax to his jacket and face for that Sean Penn Falcon and the Snowman look.

You relieved yourself of a bundle on these Isaias, consider going cheap on the pants because you might be surprised at how well the L. L. Bean heritage stuff, the Lands' End Canvas line, Crew, BR, Macy's, Kohls and, yes, even certain Dockers, are built nowadays.

(Liked the green pants with the burgundy jacket. Add a white shirt and you've got a full Spumoni.)
